Another Sunday AM Update

Emma had another peaceful night. She is amazing. She blessed us with a lot of eye opening this morning (reminder for new blog readers: she has been blind for 18 months).

For those keeping count (and I am), it has now been 10 days since she lost her swallow function and quit eating. Her digestive system had slowed well before that, so she couldn't process food even if she did eat it. I have given a lot of thought to how she is hanging on and believe she is getting some fluids from a couple of areas and all are through absorption: eye drops several times a day, oral hygiene swabs and the water content in her morphine (rectal). Don't mistake my utilitarian thoughts as discounting the caring God who holds her tight; Holy, Holy is He.

Christy says to tell everyone "hi" and she will be back to posting when her writing ability returns!

Should there ever be a need to summarize my life in a single picture, feel free to use this one:

  3. That precious photo. How appropriate, she is wrapped in her Father's arm. I could feel love from just seeing the photo. Wishing I could take a little bit of the hurt for you. She is so, so, beautiful. So glad to hear that Emma's night was peaceful. She only deserves the best.

  5. God continues to use Emma and her mom and dad. What faithful servants you both are. The faith, love and strength that you have is so inspiring to others. I am sure that your story has brought many to Christ that have never known Him. She is indeed a very precious child that is so blessed to have the parents that she has. My prayer is that God will perform a miracle on this child and restores her health. He is an awesome God! He is especially fond of you, Christy and Kelvin. My thoughts and prayers are with you.

  8. We continue to share many thoughts and prayers for each and every one of you. I'm sure only a small fraction of those praying for you are posting comments. I can only imagine the number of hearts and lives Emma's story has touched . . . I'm sure it is unfathomable. Thank you for opening your hearts and souls to the world.

One verse that came to mind while reading your last update:

"Let him kiss me with the kisses of his mouth—for your love is more delightful than wine."
    Song of Solomon 1:2

  9. What a beautiful picture. I do nEot have the words to express how I feel about all of you and what you are going through. One thing that crossed by mind on the way to church is what it means to hug someone. I will never hug anyone ever again without thinking of Emma. I always wanted to give good hugs and now I think I know how because of Emma. I hope I will always give the person I hug an Emma Hug. Thanks for letting me part of your lives. Love, Madalyn

  11. Abigail continues to love you very powerfully too, little Emma.
I never quite knew how much Abigail really understood about what I told her about the fabulous little girl I had the delight to discover on Internet 18 months ago .. My little Abigail has mental disabilities, but tonight when she saw the photo of your hand Emma, she tried really hard to grab your hand .... saying 'main main main' (French word for 'hand'). She reaches out to you miraculous Emma ... you are doing miracles half way across the world already.

You are a mindblowing inspiration little girl. Thank you. We love you so very, very much.

  18. Matthew 5:4
Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted.

    Matthew 11:25-30
Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.

~What a beautiful picture posted of Emma and her Dad. Christy and Kelvin, I continue to pray for Emma and your entire family...for strength, for peace, and for comfort.

  19. What a precious picture. Emma may have lost some of her abilities, but she obviously knows she is being held by someone who loves her. That picture just spoke volumes to me about how we as God's children may be in the fight of our lives, but we can still know His loving arms around us, holding us in the midst of our pain. Emma teaches all of us...still.

    Praying with you as always.

  20. Kelvin and Christy,

You are an inspiration to everyone that reads this blog and especially to me. Your faith and trust in God even in this unbelievably difficult time is astounding. Only God could give you the strength to write these blog entries, much less function day to day.

Thank you for your faith even while suffering. Because you follow God even during this, my faith has increased.

You have impacted my life for eternity.

Emma is so precious, strong and beautiful. May her heavenly rewards be without description. She has fought the good fight and will finish well.

I celebrate her life, her hugs, her smile. I'm thankful that she lived and allowed me to see a family that will follow God even when it gets too tough.

God's strength has been made perfect in her weakness. And, truly, Emma's life has changed the world!

  21. This is a very touching photo. We have read your blogs everyday. My children are very big fans of Emma's. In fact my youngest daughter Kylee makes sure that we say a prayer every night and that Emma has been included every night in those prayers. We have lost a child in the past and pray that no one ever has to go through this pain. I feel that your family has so much amazing faith. Your family is an insperation to us all. We have all learned somthing from your family and from Emma. NEVER GIVE UP! God Bless your family and know that there are so many who are on your side. May you have eternal peace to your hearts forever.

    Warmest Regards,
    The Shirley Family

  22. I know that there is no justification for what she is going through. But my prayers are always that God keep the pain away from her and she would just be full of peace. The grace that you carry your cross is remarkable and an inspiration.

  23. Christy & Kelvin-
I had the honor to meet you both last summer when Luke was in one of my summer cooking classes. Please know that you, and your family...especially Emma have touched me (and so many others) very deeply. I'm praying for you and am so inspired by your faith and strength. What an amazing family you are! God's love is all over you and it shows...boy does it show! His Grace is sufficient. Love & Prayers to you-Lori

  24. This song keeps running through my head. Maybe this is on Emma's 'bucket list' - to sing until the whole world hears!! :) Your family has certainly shone the light of Jesus in the darkest night!

Lord I want to feel with Your heart
And see the world through Your eyes
I want to be Your hands and feet
I want to live a life that leads

    chorus
    Ready yourselves
    Ready yourselves
Let us shine the light of Jesus
    In the darkest night
    Oh, ready yourselves
    Oh, ready yourselves
May the powers of darkness tremble as our praises rise
    Until the whole world hears
    Lord we are calling out
Lifting up Your name for all to hear the sound
Like voices in the wilderness we're crying out
    As the day draws near
We'll sing until the whole world hears

Lord let Your sleeping giant arise
    Catch the demons by surprise
    Holy nation sanctified
Let this be our battle cry

    chorus

Whoa oh oh! Whoa oh oh! We'll sing until
    The whole world hears
Whoa oh oh! Whoa oh oh! We'll sing until
    The whole world hears

Want to be Your hands and feet
Want to be a life that leads
To see You set the captive free
    Until the whole world hears
and I pray that they will see more of You and less of me
Lord I want my life to be the song You sing
Until the whole world hears Lord we are calling out
Lifting Your name up for all to hear the sound
Like voices in the wilderness we're crying out
    As the day draws near
We'll sing until the whole world hears
Whoa oh oh! Whoa oh oh! We'll sing until
    The whole world hears!
Whoa oh oh! Whoa oh oh! We'll sing until
    The whole world hears!

Praying for you all with a heavy, heavy heart!!

  25. Emma is holding fast to her daddy. The love a father and daughter share is amazing. I continue pray for peace. Your love is over powering. It just keeps growing and growing. God is good. I love the photo and know that is one of the best pictures I've seen of any child with parent. Love y'all. Keep amazing people Emma from near to far.
