First Sunday of Advent

Today was a beautiful day in Northeast Ohio. I should have been outside soaking up the sun, but after church and warming up some leftovers for lunch, I changed into something comfy and plopped down on the couch with my laptop to continue the search for a house. I’m trying to stay positive and believe God will lead us to the right one, but sometimes I get discouraged. There’s just not anything available right now in our price range. Bummer.

I enjoyed the rest today. No hustle and bustle. I have done most of my shopping online. I ordered something for the youngest in our family today while I was online. I love that someone brings stuff to my door and saves me the madness of going out in the shopping jungle!

I did make dinner and clean the kitchen  this evening, so I’m not feeling completely unproductive.

I enjoyed the church service so much this morning. Today we celebrate Jesus being the light of the world. A family from the church read scripture and lit the first advent candle. It felt so peaceful. We also took communion because it was the first Sunday of the month. It was such a time of reflection and awareness of my need of the Savior of the world...Emmanuel, God with us.

I’m praying for peace and healing in the coming year. For now though, I’m focusing on the one who provides the peace and healing, Jesus.

Peace

There’s not much that calms my spirit like sitting by a fire. The fire pit is my favorite...especially with good friends or getting to know new friends with a yummy drink or marshmallows! Now that we live in a much colder climate, I’m enjoying the fireplace. It’s a chilly morning, but the fire in the fireplace is warming my bones and my heart.

I hope as you prepare for Thanksgiving you feel God’s peace in your spirit and discover new things for which you are thankful. I’m thankful this year that our precious friends drove up from Texas to spend Thanksgiving with us. My heart is full.

Christy's Confessions

I think I'll start a new segment on the blog called, "Christy's Confessions." Clever, huh? It will be a spot to share the good, the bad and the ugly. Something maybe you're not super proud of or maybe something that you're knocking out of the park. I'll start, and you can chime in with your confession too if you so desire. It'll be fun! We'll see if I make it past this first one! Ha!

Here goes...

1. I might be addicted to sour cream and onion potato chips. I think I could probably down an entire family size bag by.my.self., thank you very much. No, they don't fit in with my otherwise healthy diet, but I love them. I'm not particular about the brand. Just bring 'em to Mama!

2. I might also be addicted to Tessamae's Creamy Ranch salad dressing. Y'all, it is SO good. Just like with any Ranch dressing, it goes well with everything, except this one IS good for you! (well, maybe not the whole bottle in one sitting) It's Whole 30 approved, dairy-free, gluten-free, and all the things. It's not vegan-friendly...sorry vegan friends. I used to buy it at Target and Kroger when I lived in Southeast Texas, but now that I'm in Northeast Ohio (holy cow! I'm still not used to saying that) I buy it at Giant Eagle and Walmart. I wish Aldi carried it because that's where I've been shopping lately. Anyone with an Aldi connection? Let's make that happen, pretty please?

3. Most mornings I get up at 5:30 and go walking with my neighbor. BOOM!! We are basically walking rock stars! Today, I had a teacher conference at 7:10 (isn't that kind of early for a meeting where you have to think clearly) and had to cancel on my friend. Guess what? She went without me! I'm so proud...and jealous that I'm not as awesome!

4. I might have completely forgotten about packing Cora's lunch today. Like, I totally didn't even think about it until I was making my lunch at 1:09 p.m. Gah! (It was that 7:10 a.m. meeting that threw me for a loop!) I hope the sweet cafeteria people took care of her. I'll make them something special.

5. I start a new job tomorrow. Cora's over the moon because I'll be at her school every day. I guess this one isn't really a confession or a bragging point. I'll be in touch with which way it goes. Hopefully, I'll knock it out of the park!

Happy Monday!

I'll leave you with something pretty from my Instagram story yesterday evening...

I love the marina in the fall.

Gorgeous sunset for fishing.

Good night, Sunday.

OHIO

It's been a while since I've been in this space. I've missed it so much. I know I say that every time. I really hope to carve out a time to write consistently. I need the outlet. And besides, there are so many new things to write about now!

I still can't believe our family moved to Ohio over the summer for Kelvin's new job opportunity with Lubrizol at the corporate office. It was just last year we were settling into our new house on Landon Lane and loving our pool and shop and land and neighbors. Who knew we would be all the way across the country in less than a year?! Crazy times. We are enjoying our new surroundings. The weather is gorgeous for now.

I can't believe the colors!

Y'all, this is a real pumpkin patch! Like the pumpkins are actually growing on the vine!

I'm a little anxious about the winter, having never lived in snow or cold. We will embrace it as much as we can...skiing, snowboarding, sledding, fires, hot toddies, sleigh rides and more! I'll need to go shopping too. We just don't have the appropriate clothes for this climate.

The move hasn't come without adjustments. We all left everything and everyone we knew and loved, but I think it has been good. The kids are making new friends and so are we. We love our neighbors. Everyone has been so kind and accommodating. We're in a rental for now and hope to buy in the same charming neighborhood. It's like Mayberry! There's a beach, the lake, trails, green space, and lots of community activities! I love it. The kids love it too. Luke has been fishing and caught quite a whopper!

Cora loves the friends she can play with in the 'hood, and Carleigh enjoys walking down to the beach to read and chill.

Stay tuned as I share our new adventures!
