Happy Birthday, Luke

I know I say this all of the time, but I cannot believe how time flies. Luke turned 8 years old today. It was only the other day I was pregnant with him, and Carleigh was 20 months old running around half naked in a diaper!

I was lucky enough for my water to break, which always began my labor. Kelvin had been in Beaumont with his uncle making sausage the entire day and the day before, making for one tired man. He got home laaate that night, probably around 11 or so. We hadn't been in bed long enough for either of us to start snoring when I felt a little pop. I said, "Kelvin, my water just broke." To which he replied, "Do you know what time it is?" Poor thing. He was a trooper though. I couldn't ask for a better labor coach. We decided with Carleigh that I was going to deliver drug-free. I know everyone is different, but that's what we chose. So, anyway, we made a couple of phone calls, got some things together, and then made our way into the hospital. Luke was such a little doll. I was so excited to have a little man cub. Carleigh was so cute when she came to see him for the first time. What a young man he is becoming now.

Weird mix of pjs, but it's his birthday, so who cares? He's wearing his Heelys here.

We are so proud of him. He has made the most important decision of his life, which is asking Jesus to be his Lord and Savior. He is so serious about that committment. I love seeing how he loves Jesus. He has also become a very good hunter. He likes catching bugs and lizards and climbing trees. He is a true blue boy. He also loves to join me in the kitchen and cook too, which I love. Luke loves to ride his skateboard and ripstick, and now he is trying his hand at Heelys. He got some for his birthday this morning.

He is so funny. Most of the time he's funny without even trying. This morning he had me giggling. Kelvin and I were sitting on the couch, and out of nowhere we hear a big, little boy voice singing, "Happy birthday to me, happy birthday to me..." and he comes around the corner complete with jazz hands and large movement choreography, at which point we joined in the song. I hope he keeps his carefree personality and doesn't become too cool in a few years.

I pray he continues to grow in his faith and becomes a wonderful man, husband, friend and leader like his daddy. I hope he continues to love his toys for a long time. I hope he continues to love his new dog and his sisters. I love that little guy!
